Abby Finkenauer’s bid to become the Democrat nominee for U.S. Senate became slightly more complicated this week when a judge ruled she failed to meet the signature requirements to be on the Democrat ballot in the June primary.

At issue were undated signatures in certain counties. Those signatures were thrown out, which kept Finkenauer from meeting the requirement of obtaining 100 signatures from 19 different counties.

Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Katharine Cooksey: “Abby Finkenauer is no stranger to being fired by Iowans, but she at least made it to November last time around.”

Finkenauer’s statement:

Our campaign submitted more than 5,000 signatures, 1,500 more signatures than are required to qualify for the ballot. We are confident that we have met the requirements to be on the ballot.
This misguided, midnight ruling is an outrageous and partisan gift to the Washington Republicans who orchestrated this meritless legal action.
We are exploring all of our options to fight back hard against this meritless partisan attack, and to ensure that the voices of Iowans will be heard at the ballot box.
Since the beginning of this campaign, I have said that democracy is on the line, and it’s clear now more than ever that Republicans will stop at nothing to silence the voices of Iowans.
Chuck Grassley’s allies in Washington are going to continue launching attack after attack on me – no matter how weak and partisan – because they know we have the momentum to win this race. We are not going to stop, we are going to continue to fight to build the coalition that can defeat Chuck Grassley in November.
In the dead of the night, a Republican judge made a partisan decision to kick me off of the ballot.
Plain and simple: this decision lacks merit. It is a gift to Washington Republicans and makes a mockery of our democracy.
We can’t let them win—together, we MUST fight back.

  1. Just like President Trump and the Patriots need to expose fraud and corruption in the 2020 elections, Abby has to show that she did indeed have enough proper signatures.

  2. “Former President Barack Obama won his first election by throwing all of his opponents off the ballot based on technicalities. In his first race for office—seeking an Illinois state Senate seat in 1996—Obama used the election rules to eliminate his Democratic competition.”

I suppose Abby Finkenauer somehow would blame Obama’s actions on Republicans also.. “partisan decisions” and all.
