Today, Kentucky legislators overrode the veto of Democrat Governor Andy Beshear to pass SB 83, prohibiting biological males from competing in girls’ sports in grades 6-12 as well as at the collegiate level. Kentucky is the 15th state to enact protections for female athletics.
In response, Terry Schilling, president of American Principles Project (APP), released the following statement cheering the news:
“In 2019, APP’s affiliated super PAC ran ads in Kentucky warning voters that if Andy Beshear were to be elected governor, women’s sports would be at risk. At the time, we were criticized for supposedly making up or exaggerating the issue. However, we were unfortunately proven correct last week when Beshear vetoed the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act.
“Thankfully, Kentucky lawmakers made the right decision in overriding this veto in order to protect their state’s female athletes. We commend them for standing up in defense of a fair playing field for women and girls, and we continue to encourage leaders in other states without such protections to join this rapidly growing movement to protect women’s sports.”
