Three Republicans are seeking the GOP nomination in Iowa House District 58. Only one has responded to The Iowa Standard’s legislative survey.

Sean Galleger and Jim Wright have not responded to the survey. Charley Thomson did fill out his survey. And his answers were strong enough to convince us that he is worth supporting.

Not enough aspiring legislators mention a particular word when talking about why they’re running for office. That word is simple — constitution.

Thomson is a self-described “constitutional conservative.” He mentioned the Tenth Amendment, something every state lawmaker should champion.

You can read about Thomson’s philosophy here.

Thomson checks all the boxes we need to check.

He is pro-life.

He is in favor of school choice — and expanding it.

He signed The Big Family Pledge.

He seems to have a solid understanding on free-market principles.

Thomson gets it, as best we can tell. He understands the issues and he is willing to listen.

He has answered the questions we had for his campaign. It is unfortunate the other two candidates have not.

Our hope is that Thomson stands by his survey answers. If he does, and we have no reason to believe he won’t, he will be a great addition to the Iowa House Republican caucus.

Voters in Iowa House District 58 should support Thomson. Doing so will help make Iowa a more conservative state.
