Republican State Rep. Skyler Wheeler serves as the chair of the Iowa House Education Committee. He took to Facebook on Friday to remind Iowans just how radical the Iowa State Education Association is and listed a few of their efforts to oppose common sense in Iowa schools.
ISEA is “adamantly opposed” to empowering parents in their children’s education, Wheeler said.
“They are drumming up fear and hysteria, telling folks that their local public school is doomed if we pass the Governor’s Educational Savings Account bill,” Wheeler wrote. “It’s wrong, but it’s not surprising.”
ISEA previously opposed the last year’s bill to protect women’s sports. They led the charge to mask kindergartners and keep students from attending school in person, Wheeler wrote.
“This year, they have continued down their radical, woke path,” he said.
In addition to opposing the ESA proposal, the ISEA is opposed to a bill that states school employees cannot hide information about a student’s requested gender transition or identity from the child’s parents. They also are opposed to prohibiting the teaching of gender ideology to students in K-3 grades.
“I do not believe for one second they speak for all teachers, as I know many who disagree with ISEA’s stance on several issues,” Wheeler said. “However, ISEA has shown they are a radical, woke organization that does not put the student or parent first. Be careful when falling for the fear and hysteria they are peddling on the Governor’s Students First Act.”
