Another Iowa county has voted to censure Sen. Joni Ernst for her vote in support of the (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act. This brings to the total counties to formally censure the junior senator or issue a letter of disapproval to 13.

Monona county met for the first time since Ernst’s vote and passed the resolution of censure. The resolution received zero opposition.

“God-fearing people and the founders of our country recognize that marriage was instituted by the Almighty, Triune God,” the resolution states. “Senator Joni Ernst’s vote in support of the ‘Respect for Marriage Act’ is in direct opposition to this God-ordained institution as well as in direct opposition to the Iowa Republican Party platform, Section 13, under liberty:

“‘We believe that traditional, two-parent [one male (XY) and one female (XX)] marriage-based families are the foundation to a stable, enduring, and healthy civilization.  We encourage the repeal of any laws allowing any marriage that is not between one natural man and one natural woman.’

“Nothing is more foundational to our society than marriage as instituted by God. By her actions, Sen. Joni Ernst directly opposes the expressed will of God and that of her constituents and is hereby formally censured for her vote by the Monona County Republican Party Central Committee.”

The following counties have reported censures or resolutions of disapproval of Ernst to The Iowa Standard:

Mahaska
Pocahontas
Wright
Hancock
Ida
Des Moines
Van Buren
Guthrie
Sioux
Jones
Madison
Warren

Ernst recently defended her vote and became defiant during a video conference with the Dallas County GOP.

Defiant Ernst says unlike her GOP critics, she reads the bills; defends (Dis)Respect for Marriage vote among others
