An Idaho man and his mother are being charged with the rape, kidnapping, and exploitation of a 15-year-old girl, along with drug trafficking, after the girl’s mother reported that she had been sexually assaulted and taken out of state for an abortion without parental consent.
Local reports show that, during a forensic interview, the girl told child advocates that her 18-year-old boyfriend/abuser demanded that she have an abortion. Both he and his mother bullied and coerced her, police say, and subsequently transported her to Bend, Oregon to have the baby aborted. Parental involvement requirements are enormously popular, yet 15 states – including Oregon – functionally have none.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America’s State Policy Director Katie Daniel slammed the abortion lobby, saying:
“Once again, the abortion industry has been caught red-handed abetting the abuse of young girls. Parental involvement is crucial to protect vulnerable girls from trafficking and other forms of exploitation. Yet the radical Left including the ACLU and Planned Parenthood are going around the country fighting parental rights laws that keep our daughters safe. They’re spending millions of dollars to rewrite state constitutions and eliminate what they call ‘barriers’ to their agenda, putting even deeply pro-life states on par with the liberal West Coast’s zero-limits abortion policies.
“This horrifying case should set alarm bells ringing in Ohio – where a ‘yes’ vote on Issue 1 is a vote to shield adult men who pose as parents when taking their young victims for abortions – and in every state that the Left has targeted to put extreme anti-parent, anti-life amendments on the ballot.”
The abortion industry has a lengthy history of failing to report sex crimes and abuse. A 2014 report from Loyola University Chicago’s Beazley Institute for Health Law and Policy found that Planned Parenthood is a top destination for trafficking victims, second only to hospital emergency rooms. One survivor stated that she was taken to Planned Parenthood “because they didn’t ask any questions.”
