Earlier this month we let our readers know that an Iowa State University professor called Kelly Reddy-Best was giving students extra credit for sharing their preferred pronouns and had students watch a video about BDSM that featured an outfit worn for “age play” where a woman pretended to be a 5-year-old little girl.

We also told you about the in-depth study she has students do as it relates to “trans gear” like binders and other methods including packing and tucking.

Just a couple of days ago we reported the class also has students pick from one of two videos to watch for a case study where one of the two videos features censored hardcore homosexual pornography.

Iowa State University has not responded to inquiries from The Iowa Standard, but a few sources have shared responses they have received from the university.

Iowa State University made sure all students were given full points whether they provided their preferred pronouns or not as offering extra credit for preferred pronouns is “not appropriate” and “inconsistent” with Iowa State’s required free expression syllabus statement. The reference to points for pronouns has been removed from the class as well.

The university has also stated that the course will not be offered during the winter session or spring semester as there will be a review of course materials.

The Iowa Standard also learned that students will not be required to view the BDSM video as part of the course beginning next semester.

According to the website Open Payrolls, Reddy-Best’s pay rate was $117,147 with another $9,107.13 in travel pay.

According to the website “Rate My Professors,” Reddy-Best has 10 “awful” ratings out of 44. Just 69 percent of those who responded said they would take her course again.

“As far as teaching goes, she is good and gives lots of resources,” one reviewer wrote. “However she is VERY into PC culture and her political and ideological views saturate her classes.”

That was from a review left way back in December of 2016.

Another reviewer wrote that Reddy-Best “puts outside life before teaching.”

Another reviewer wrote…

“Worst professor I have had at Iowa State. Do not take this class if you are a strait (sic) white male. Unfairly graded for personal beliefs.”

A fair number of the positive reviews mentioned the class is “easy.” Even a reviewer who praised the class for hitting “important topics” within diversity and inclusion noted the class is “mundane and boring at best.”

“I would only take this class if you need an easy A and need it for credit for your degree,” they wrote.
