A Carlisle voter told The Iowa Standard that when polls opened this morning, voters were forced to leave their ballots in a black box connected to the back of the voting machine because the machine was down.

Poll workers said they had called and were told someone would be there to fix it eventually, but they basically couldn’t even get it to turn on.

This happened in Warren County. The Warren County Auditor’s office acknowledged someone had been to that site to correct something else so they imagine the problem has been fixed.

“People voted and put their ballots in a plastic box hanging off of the voting machine on the back,” the voter said. “It was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen. The machine was turned around facing a wall.”

The voter said it looked like the box was being used as intended, but still thought it was strange.
