From Sen. Chuck Grassley’s Capitol Hill Report call on Tuesday, Nov. 12:

Sen. Grassley talked about previous impeachment hearings during Bill Clinton and Richard Nixon’s presidencies.

“Looking back at those, where one time Democrats were in the minority and another time Republicans were in the minority, this time Republicans are in the minority. Back in those other two, the minority had a chance to call witnesses and to cross-examine and it seemed to me that those two presidents had due process.

“Since (Rep. Adam) Schiff is the congressman running everything and he can veto anything the Republicans want, there’s no assurance that Republicans will get due process, so it’s very unfair. Up until now it’s all been a Star Chamber approach — everything has been secret. Now it’s going to be out in the open, but not under the same procedures as before.

“I think it’s going to hurt the credibility of the process in the House of Representatives and, worse than that, all the time the House is spending on is to obliterate what happened in the 2016 election where 63 million people voted for Trump. And this isn’t something I hear about back in Iowa. I get all over Iowa. I don’t hear about impeachment, I hear about USMCA, high drug prices, negotiations with China and things of that nature. People aren’t talking about impeachment. So, you probably have heard me say this before, this is just additional proof that Washington D.C. is an island surrounded by reality. Impeachment is all this town talks about.”
