On Friday, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly vetoed SB 233, legislation which would have prohibited the prescription to minors of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, or surgeries for the purpose of attempting to alter their sex.
In response, Terry Schilling, president of American Principles Project (APP), released the following statement calling on state lawmakers to override Kelly’s veto:
“As time goes on, it becomes ever clearer that the transgender industry is perpetrating the biggest medical scandal of our lifetimes. Just this week, a review in England of so-called ‘gender-affirming care’ found that children were being pushed down this destructive pathway on an incredibly flimsy basis, findings which led the country’s national health service to severely restrict the use of puberty blockers on minors. Numerous other European countries are acting similarly to limit these procedures.
“However, here in the U.S., our healthcare institutions continue to double down on this discredited model, bolstered by far-left Democrats like Laura Kelly. Since they continue to ignore the evidence of severe harm, as well as the growing number of distressing stories from detransitioners, Kansas lawmakers are right to act to put an end to the practice. In response to Kelly’s shameful veto, we urge the state legislature to vote to override as soon as possible. Kansas’ most vulnerable children and families deserve to be protected from this dangerous industry, and we are hopeful they soon will be.”
