Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson signed a bill on Thursday that would ban transgender females from participating in women’s sports.

A number of state legislatures around the country are putting forth effort to address this issue, but Iowa has taken little significant action.

Hutchinson put out a statement in which he said he agrees with the “intention” of the law.

“This will help promote and maintain fairness in women’s sporting events,” he said.

The NCAA has been named as one of the organizations pressuring states to resist such action.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves signed a bill that also bans biological males from competing in women’s sports on March 11. He tweeted that he “never imagined” dealing with this.
