An NBC News report claims the Biden Administration is considering a plan to house illegal immigrants at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. Gitmo is a high-security prison where the United States detained some of the worst criminals, including terrorists who were responsible for 9-11.
NBC cited two U.S. officials and an internal document in a report that said the White House National Security Council asked the Department of Homeland Security for the number of Haitian migrants apprehended at sea, which requires them to designate a third country for them to stay in while waiting for processing to enter America.
The report states if there is an overwhelming number of Haitian migrants for a third country that the Biden Administration is considering Gitmo.
Migrants from Cuba and Haiti have been housed previously at Gitmo. The administration is considering utilizing the Migrant Operations Center at the base and doubling its capacity to 400 beds.
