On Friday, U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ-08) introduced the Red Light Act to withhold federal highway funds from states that provide driver’s licenses or identification cards to illegal immigrants.

“Our nation is dealing with the worst border crisis on record, yet some states have refused to address this crisis, and instead have provided illegal immigrants driver’s licenses and identification cards,” said Congresswoman Debbie Lesko. “I am working to hold these states accountable for their disregard for our nation’s immigration laws by ensuring that states that ignore our laws are not rewarded with federal funding for highways.”

This legislation directs the Department of Transportation to withhold from states’ allocations of federal highway funds if such states enact laws to provide driver’s licenses or other identification cards to aliens unlawfully present in the United States.

Lesko was joined by Representative Jeff Duncan (R-SC-03) in introducing this legislation.
