Bombshell revelations from internal emails at Facebook reveal the federal government’s extensive efforts to squash any COVID narratives apart from their own.
Facebook claims President Biden’s White House pressured Meta into controlling the COVID narrative on social media, including censoring any posts advocating vaccine skepticism and lab-leak pandemic origins.
White House officials pressed Facebook for special access to tools to target vaccine-hesitant users and berated Facebook employees for not sharing enough data, contradicting White House claims at the time.
“Can someone quickly remind me why we were removing—rather than demoting/labeling—claims that Covid is man made,” asked Nick Clegg, president for global affairs at the company, in a July 2021 email to his coworkers. A Facebook content moderator included in the email thread replied, “We were under pressure from the administration and others to do more. We shouldn’t have done it.”
Facebook files and other emails obtained by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and the Wall Street Journal provide vast evidence of the federal government’s consistent efforts to eliminate posts that would lead to vaccine refusals.
Jordan has spearheaded this issue, noting this “wasn’t Biden’s first pressure campaign.”
“This blatant government overreach has violated the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment,” said Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel. “The federal government must be held accountable for its unlawful actions and betraying the trust of the American people.”
