Congressman Steve King weighed in on the debate regarding reparations for slavery in the United States. Senator Joni Ernst was asked about reparations during a phone call with Iowa media last week. You can read her response here.
King told The Iowa Standard the question about slavery reparations is easy.
“Yes, slavery is immoral and we should scrub it off the face of the earth,” he said. “But to suggest we can rectify a historical wrong by extracting payments from people who were never slaveholders and giving it to people who were never slaves is absurd.
“The blood that was spilled to end the atrocity of slavery exceeds that of all other U.S. wars combined. This is not about justice. It’s about cynical politics.”
