It appears the Drake Counseling Center is trying to help students deal with last week’s election results. Following President Donald J. Trump’s landslide victory, the counseling center announced it would host student events this week.

Yesterday, there was a women/marginalized gender group session. Today, there will be a group session for students of color. On Friday, there will be a general session it appears.

Prior to the election, there were listening sessions provided by the Drake Student Counseling Center. One of those sessions was for students of color only and another was for “LGBTQIA+” students only.

“These sessions are open for venting, processing and using coping strategies,” the flyer said.

This week’s sessions were added after Trump earned his landslide victory, it appears.

“We have added four more processing sessions after hearing your needs and concerns,” a social media post said. “We hope that you’re able to attend any of the sessions next week for a few minutes up to as long as you feel needed.”

After inviting students to find additional coping strategies on the page and reminding them they can speak with a counselor using Uwill, the post closed with:

“You are not alone.”
