On the one-year mark of Russia’s unprovoked attacks on Ukraine, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a combat veteran and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released a video in support of the Ukrainian people and their armed forces.

Ernst’s efforts to arm Ukraine and provide oversight of the Biden administration include:

  • Successfully included an amendment in the NDAA for the U.S. to train Ukrainian forces on how to demine the Black Sea. (Dec. 2022)
  • Led a bipartisan letter urging the Biden Pentagon to send MQ-1C Gray Eagle drones to Ukraine. (Nov. 2022)
  • Pressured Biden’s USAID on timely, effective spending of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, including forcing their hand to hire more staff. (Oct. 2022)
  • Led a letter demanding accountability from USAID on their speed of implementation and over-reliance on U.N. Agencies instead of capable nonprofits partners on the ground. (Sept. 2022)
  • Led bipartisan effort to reduce red tape and expedite food aid to Ukraine. (May 2022)
  • Supported a bipartisan bill – which is now law – to speed up lethal aid to Ukraine. (May 2022)
  • Pushed to suspend Russia from key international organizations after the massacre in Bucha. (April 2022)
  • Spearheaded a letter with 41 of her Senate GOP colleagues urging the Pentagon to transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. (March 2022).
  • Led a bipartisan Senate CODEL to Poland and Germany to meet with U.S. troops, and Ukrainian leadership and refugees. (March 2022)
