Anti-parental rights Democrat State Sen. Eric Giddens took a loss on Tuesday night against Republican Dave Sires. Giddens has been one of the most controversial Iowa Senate Democrats for his radical positions on various issues.

The Iowa Standard has detailed these controversies. Giddens and his wife essentially hosted an LGBTQ event on a school morning outside of a Cedar Falls school. You can read about that incident below.

As state senator, Giddens routinely voted against parental rights in education. In fact, Giddens even voted against a bill that requires schools to place siblings in the same classroom if they are in the same grade AND the parents request such a placement.

Giddens opposed that bill.

“As a professional educator myself, I just have a concern about this bill and I need to stand with teachers, educators and administrators in preserving the integrity of the profession. I think that educators should have the final decision as professionals as to what’s in the best interest of the students in terms of their placement in classrooms,” he said.

In addition, Giddens has been a consistent far-left vote. Giddens voted against a bill giving Iowa more power to protect its citizens against illegal immigration.

Giddens voted against mandatory E-Verify in 2024 after voting for it previously. That’s crazy considering illegal immigration got worse, not better, between the time Giddens voted for the measure earlier in his career before he opposed it in 2024.

Giddens voted against the Religious Freedom and Restoration Act. Giddens voted against a bill that prohibited schools from secretly socially transitioning students without notifying parents. He voted against a curriculum transparency bill. He voted against a bill requiring people use school bathrooms based on their sex and not their perceived so-called “gender identity.” Giddens voted in favor of sex changes on kids!

But he lost on Tuesday night by almost 400 votes.
