On Monday, America First Legal (AFL) launched a new investigation into the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding their “transgender” parent breastfeeding policies.

In response to the question, “Can transgender parents who have had breast surgery breastfeed or chestfeed [sic] their infants?” the CDC website answers, “Yes.” However, the CDC advises that transgender parents “may need help” with “medication to induce lactation.”

The CDC website also provides an “Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E) Toolkit” that instructs providers to “ensure health equity” by using “terms that are inclusive of all gender identities such as ‘pregnant person,’ ‘breastfeeding parent,’ or ‘lactating person,” because the “gender identity or expression of transgender individuals is different from their sex at birth,” and an “individual does not need to have given birth to breastfeed or chestfeed [sic].”

While the CDC suggests that transgender parents can take medication to induce lactation for “chestfeeding,” it does not warn parents of the specific risks of taking such medication. For example, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), for example, warns parents against using domperidone to increase their milk supply because of the side effects it presents to the mother and the infant. The CDC provides no such warning.

Given these troublings findings, America First Legal has launched an investigation to determine exactly who is behind this guidance. The American people deserve to know why their taxpayer dollars are going towards radical transgender ideology that may be negatively impacting both adults and babies.

Statement from Gene Hamilton, America First Legal Vice President and General Counsel:

“In yet another display of insanity, the Biden Administration has encouraged off-label use of medications in an attempt to deny biological reality and promote the notion that biological men can breastfeed. This is the state of affairs in the year 2023. We will obtain any and all records to uncover who is pushing this radical agenda and why they are advancing this ideology while neglecting the potential negative health impacts.” said Gene Hamilton.
