An Arizona judge provided a significant blow to Democrats when he gave the green light to an election integrity group to keep an eye on ballot drop-off boxes. Democrats claimed allowing such activity suppresses or intimidates voters.

However, District Judge Michael Liburdi ruled those claims cannot prevent Clean Elections USA from setting up monitors at drop-off boxes in the state, according to the Associated Press.

While Liburdi said the case presents “serious questions,” he said he couldn’t rule in favor of the left-wing group without violating the First Amendment rights of the group monitoring the boxes.

Liburdi ruled the court wasn’t provided with any evidence that Clean Elections USA’s conduct constitutes a “true threat.”

Liburdi was appointed by President Donald J. Trump.
