Republican State Rep. Gary Mohr participated in a legislative forum sponsored by The League of United Latin American Citizens Council 10 and Metrocom NAACP #4019 on Saturday.

Education was a hot topic. And Mohr said the following:

“I’m all for parents being involved in the schools. I’m not in favor of the parents telling the schools everything they need to do. I want to say this to all of you. I read some of those things in the paper too.”

Mohr said with 150 legislators, every single one has the ability to introduce legislation.

“And some of that is crazy stuff,” he said. “But don’t assume that when a crazy legislator of either party introduces a bill, they may live in Central Iowa, they may live in Northwest Iowa, they’re playing with some group — and I don’t know who they’re playing to.”

Mohr said everyone understands why teachers are important.

“Don’t jump out of a six-story window when you hear that some clown introduced a bill that’s going to throw teachers in prison for this or that because I don’t think that’s probably going to go anywhere. There’s one guy that’s not going to vote for that. That’s the process. And I don’t know why various legislators introduce various bills, just have faith in the process that most of those die along the way.”
