An overwhelming majority of American adults said there are only two genders — male and female — according to a new national phone and online survey from Rasmussen Reports. Seventy-five percent of those polled said there are just two genders. Sixty-three percent strongly agreed with such a statement.
Just 18 percent disagree.
Transgender activists have said J.K. Rowling is guilty of “hate speech” for saying such a thing. Sixty-eight percent of American adults believe schools and teachers should not be allowed to counsel students on their sexual and gender identities without parental knowledge or consent. Just 19 percent believe schools should be engaging in such counseling without parental consent.
Eighty percent of Republicans, 72 percent of unaffiliated voters and 54 percent of Democrats oppose schools counseling children on gender identity without informing parents.
While a solid majority of Republicans and unaffiliated voters agree there are only two genders, just 47 percent of Democrats agree. That isn’t a majority, but it is a plurality.
More black Americans (68 percent) strongly agree there are only two genders than white (63 percent) or other minorities (55 percent). Seventy percent of black adults, 68 percent of white adults and 65 percent of other minorities oppose schools counseling children on gender identity without parental consent.
