A wide receiver in the National Football League called Marquise Goodwin will miss the beginning of training camp because of blood clots in his legs and lungs. Goodwin sat out the 2020 NFL season out of concerns related to COVID.

“By July, Goodwin was a regular on NFLPA calls, with he and his wife in agreement that the only thing that’d save his season would be the ultimate moonshot,” said a July 30, 2020 Sports Illustrated article. “That would be a vaccine that, of course, wouldn’t arrive nearly in time. Since it didn’t, and after all those long talks, Goodwin knew what he had to do.”

The 2020 decision was undoubtedly difficult for Goodwin, who along with his wife Morgan lost a prematurely born son in 2017 and unborn twin boys in 2018. At the time Goodwin decided not to play in 2020 because a vaccine wouldn’t be available in time, the couple had a 5-month-old daughter.

Now, three years later, Goodwin is forced to sit out due to an “alarming” diagnosis.

“It was really alarming at first because I’ve experienced injury throughout my career, but it’s never been anything like this that could turn into something detrimental if it’s not taken care of,” Goodwin is quoted in the release. “It was frightening at first, but now I’m at ease with it. I’ve prayed and just given it over to God. It’s out of my control, and the only thing I can control is my effort and attitude and how I approach each day moving forward.”

Goodwin said it is “really an unfortunate deal,” but the situation needs to be dealt with in the proper fashion.

Less than two months ago, Goodwin said he is “pretty much” in his prime.

Now, after he experienced discomfort in his legs and slight shortness of breath, tests revealed blood clots in his legs and lungs.
