U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) released the following statement after the House of Representatives voted to hold U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas accountable for endangering communities by failing to secure the border:

“Make no mistake, the border crisis has turned every American community into a border community and had impacted countless families in the process. Secretary Mayorkas is responsible for the worst humanitarian and national security crisis in our nation’s history. On his watch, there’s been more than 7 million illegal crossings at our Southern Border. Fentanyl has become the leading cause of death for Iowans from my daughter’s age to my age. It is unacceptable.”

“Today, I voted for accountability for the failed policies that have impacted neighborhoods across Iowa. The American people are tired of unelected bureaucrats failing to protect our country. To best serve the American people, both Republicans and Democrats must put the interests of our country ahead of political expediency and solve the crisis at our Southern Border.”
