Last week Republican National Committee Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel gave her full endorsement to mail-in voting. The position McDaniel takes stands in contrast to that of President Donald J. Trump.
“What we do need is our voters need to vote early. I have said this over and over again. There were many in 2020 saying, ‘Don’t vote by mail, don’t vote early,'” McDaniel said. “And we have to stop that.”
An RNC spokesperson called Nathan Brand told NBC News the discussion was not about “the former president,” but was about Democrats having a month to “bank votes” while Republicans expect to get it done in one day.
Trump, who has voted by mail himself according to Brand, wrote on Truth Social:
“YOU CAN NEVER HAVE FAIR & FREE ELECTIONS WITH MAIL-IN BALLOTS – NEVER, NEVER, NEVER.”
McDaniel made the comments in the midst of her re-election bid as RNC chair. She is being challenged by Rep. Lee Zeldin, Harmeet Dhillon and Mike Lindell.
