On Tuesday, Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) issued the following statement regarding a change in Republican Leadership in the U.S. Senate following Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s $118.28 billion supplemental package that prioritizes foreign interests, bankrupts America, and leaves the southern border wide open. For decades, Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer have been the architects of a $34 trillion national debt and the invasion at our southern border,” said Rep. Rosendale. “House Republicans did the work the American people elected us to do when we passed H.R. 2, the most conservative and comprehensive piece of legislation to secure the border. However, Mitch McConnell refused to consider this bill despite holding the title of Republican Leader.”Instead, McConnell and Senate GOP Leadership worked with Chuck Schumer and Mayorkas to provide a supplemental package that provides Ukraine with three times more funding to secure their border than our own!The American people elect Republicans to Congress to cut spending, secure our border, make our military the most effective fighting force on Earth, and restore our energy dominance. House Republicans kept our promise when we passed legislation to accomplish these goals that unite us as Republicans, but we have been sold out every single time by weak Republican leadership in the Senate that prioritized the interests of Democrats and swamp creatures in Washington.Mitch McConnell should not hold the title of Republican Leader when he has demonstrated he is more interested in working with Chuck Schumer than advocating for Republican policies. Just this week, Chuck Schumer claimed he has never worked more closely with Mitch McConnell on a piece of legislation than this disastrous America Last border deal. I will not stand by silently and allow Mitch McConnell to bankrupt America and leave our southern border wide open, which is why I am calling for new Republican leadership in the U.S. Senate.”
