Republican State Sen. Jason Schultz supported SSB 1199 through subcommittee and in committee. The bill will help strengthen Iowa’s election security.
Schultz said the legislation is “incredibly important.”
“It addresses the controversy that the country is going through right now,” Schultz said. “I think, myself, that Iowans’ votes were disenfranchised by some shady dealings in five cities around the country that I think shows what happens when you don’t strengthen your election system, when you allow people to game elections to the win that they did in cities such as Philadelphia.”
Schultz compared elections to infrastructure.
“You never stop working on them to make them stronger and better and more reliable,” he said.
