A surprisingly low number of Americans subscribe to a “biblical worldview,” according to a recent study conducted by pollster George Barna in conjunction with Family Research Council’s Center for Biblical Worldview.
Only 6% of Americans have a biblical worldview. The survey was conducted with a national sample of 1,000 adults in May 2021.
Fifty-one percent of those surveyed claimed to have a biblical worldview, but upon further questioning, inconsistencies were revealed between “what they believe and what the Bible teaches.” After assessing the answers given to specific questions, the study found the actual percentage of Americans with a biblical worldview is closer to 6%.
What are some of the inconsistencies between what the participants claim and what the Bible says?
Of the 51% who claim a biblical worldview, 33% believe humans are “born with a sinful nature and can only be saved from the consequences of sin by Jesus Christ,” but 49% “accept reincarnation as a possibility after they die.”
Although 44% of Millennials claim a biblical worldview, only 4% actually believe what the Scriptures teach. Among those 75 or older, the numbers aren’t much better. Sixty-two percent claim to adhere to Bible-based beliefs, but only 9% subscribe to a biblical worldview.
