Democrat State Sen. Molly Donahue took to Twitter over the weekend to offer a sharp criticism of President Donald J. Trump, who has survived two attempted assassination attempts this election cycle.

Donahue, who is leaving the legislature and running for county supervisor in Linn County, wrote that there has never been a moment from 2016 until today that she “saw anything redeeming” in Trump.

Donahue said she’ll never understand anyone putting their “moral, and beliefs, integrity, or ethics aside to vote for someone who is unethical, immoral, and no integrity.”

Donahue said “only lies and nonsense” come out when Trump opens his mouth. She claimed that Trump will only be President for those who support him and warned Trump will “persecute” anyone who works against him.

Trump was President from 2017-2021. To the best of our knowledge, he did not orchestrate any persecutions of anyone who worked against him. We’re also not aware of any of his policies that applied strictly to his supporters or strictly to people who didn’t support him.

Donahue claimed Trump will end voting and democracy as we know it.

“If he wins this country will be the butt of all jokes around the world, again,” Donahue said. “We will have a collapse of the economy, and the rich will continue to increase their worth, while workers will be fighting to get by.”

A bold prediction — that America’s economy will collapse while the rich will increase their worth.

“People who voted for him the first time or second time – I don’t understand, but I cannot get passed the ones that are going to vote for him a third time – knowing without a doubt he is morally bankrupt, I just can’t – and you should unfriend me if you are voting for him,” said the Linn County Supervisor candidate. “I am unapologetic when it comes to my voicing my distain (sic) for this man – with all the facts and knowledge we ALL have about him.”

Donahue said whether you like Kamala Harris or not makes no difference because Harris is “the polar opposite” of what Trump is.

“She is a good person who will work to better ALL US citizen’s (sic) lives regardless of your politics,” Donahue said. “He cannot say the same.”

Ironically, Donahue called her political opponents “bigots,” “bullies,” “homophobes,” “racists,” and “xenophobes” previously.

Donahue’s rantings resulted in an ethics complaint, which was dismissed. However, Democrat State Sen. Pam Jochum said it’s important “we all need to choose our words very carefully to ensure respect, even toward those with whom we disagree.”

Donahue is a teacher.
