President Donald J. Trump expressed frustration with Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds on Monday. Trump took to Truth Social, criticizing Reynolds for wanting to remain “neutral” in the upcoming Iowa Caucus.
“I love Iowa, protected & expanded ethanol, got $28 billion from China for our great farmers, ended the Estate (Death!) tax on farms, made the best trade deals in history (USMCA, China & many more), introduced the world to our farmers & kept Iowa’s ‘First in the Nation’ status. I opened up the Governor position for Kim Reynolds, & when she fell behind, I endorsed her, did big rallies, & she won. Now, she wants to remain ‘neutral.’ I don’t invite her to events! DeSanctus down 45 points!”
Reynolds attended a Mamas for DeSantis event with Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis last week in Iowa.
Reynolds did not attend Trump’s event in Council Bluffs last week, but she has appeared at his previous Iowa stops — including an event in Davenport earlier this year.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis defended Reynolds on Twitter, noting she is a “strong leader who knows how to ignore the chirping and get it done.” DeSantis said Reynolds earned a landslide re-election because she delivered “big results” and will deliver even more after the special legislative session addressing the pro-life issue.
Cody Hoefert, the former co-chair of the Republican Party of Iowa, said he is “out” on Trump’s bid for the GOP nomination after his Truth Social post.
“It’s time for fresh leadership or shall I say actual leadership,” Hoefert said. “I am open to support a new fresh leader who inspires others.”
Hoefert added hours later on Twitter that he sees the “vitriol” coming from “one campaign.”
“They say I’m not neutral…well, I was…not anymore. I only need to decide what candidate to work for! They say I’m a RINO well…they don’t know me and the battles I’ve fought and wins we’ve had here in our great state!”
Kim and Cody, BIG MISTAKE. Our whole country is at stake. Such short memories.
Does Trump also expect Grassley to endorse him? Didn’t he save Grassley (sheesh)? Did he not see the public statements by the two months ago that they would not be endorsing, in line with RPI resolutions so as to maintain the integrity of the caucuses in appearance as well as fact.
Rather than get into all the “I did this” thrown out by his eminence and list the things he didn’t get done it is clear Trump thinks of Iowa as just a bunch of farmers run by Bruce Rastetter. He is ignorant in his presumptuousness and stereotypes.
In 2016 and years before and after Republican platforms at various levels called for eliminating subsidies and mandates including ethanol. The platforms of course are generally ignored by the real powers that be or pretend to be. Branstad et al did their unlevel best to do in Ted Cruz for being insufficiently drunk on ethanol (he was merely tips). Ted Cruz won the 2016 Iowa caucuses. Ethanol and wind are not as well received by grassroots Republicans as Trump imagines. People know they are boondoggles and that is not going to drive people to the caucuses for Trump.
It may well be other things but Trump’s constant reminding people of his favorite big corporate affinities is not all that smart. The same can be said of his claiming responsibility for Operation Warped Speed. The only thing effectually immunized by his program was Big Pharma, another example of his corporate affinity.
And Job One — the wall. No warp speed there. He didn’t get it done. That was enough, using his standards, for the star of The Apprentice to say “you are fired”.
Trump is our man to go BACK as PRESIDENT in 24 AND HE WILL!!!! TRUMP is leading and he will WIN. TRUMP is the only one who can even come close to fixing this mess. Who do you think can fix this? TRUMP THAT’S IT!!!!! TRUMP wants people to be loyal and that’s what he needs to fix this mess. TRUMP isn’t perfect and no one is. I love Governor Reynolds as well and she as well as Grassley should endorse him. Who are you going to endorse “DeSantis” SORRY. TRUMP CAN FIX THE PROBLEM THIS IS GOOD VS EVIL!!!!!!!
