Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America issued the following statement in response to Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) caving to Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) and bringing individual military nominations to the Senate floor.
Earlier this year, Tuberville announced that he would place a hold on all U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) civilian and general/flag officer nominations in response to a directive from the department that says the DOD will pay the cost of travel for servicemembers and their dependents to receive elective (“non-covered”) abortions. This action effectively slowed approval of nominations. Unfortunately, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer reacted by stopping the consideration of nominees altogether.
“Senator Tuberville should be commended for his unwavering determination to expose and stop the Department of Defense’s illegal abortion policy. Democrats and the media have been captured by the pro-abortion Left, accusing Tuberville of hindering ‘military readiness’ while the Democrats push no-limits abortion on demand until birth. Now that Schumer has caved and has finally scheduled individual votes on military nominations, it is clear Schumer had the ability to do this all along,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Seven in 10 Americans want greater protections for unborn children and their mothers, not fewer – even more than a third of Democrats reject their hard-earned tax dollars going towards funding abortions.
“Senator Tuberville is a heroic example of how pro-life members of Congress should stand for the protection of unborn children and their mothers and the rule of law. We are proud to stand with him as he works with his colleagues to rein in Biden’s extremism and save innocent lives.”
