As I watched Wednesday night’s debate between Vice President Mike Pence and Sen. Kamala Harris, one line that was likely missed by everyone else stuck out to me.

Let’s revisit what was said regarding the rules of the debate.

“No one in either campaign or at the commission or anywhere else has been told in advance what topics I’ll raise or what questions I’ll ask,” the moderator said.

But 24 minutes into the debate, as Pence was wrapping up an answer, note this exchange.

“Thank you Vice President Pence. You know, that’s a good segue into our third topic,” the moderator said.

“It’s a great segue,” Harris said.

“Which is about the economy,” the moderator finished.

If nobody knew the topics beforehand, how could Harris have possibly known that Pence’s answer provided a “great segue” into the next topic?
