The Waukee Community School District’s executive director of communications, Amy Varcoe, confirmed to The Iowa Standard that the signs plastered in bathrooms will remain.
The sign details what to do if you feel like someone is using the wrong bathroom.
It instructs people not to stare at, challenge or insult people using the wrong bathroom. It asks them to instead respect their privacy, dignity and to go about their day.
Finally, it implores students not to take the “right” to use the wrong bathroom away from them.
Varcoe said there is no necessary “stamp of approval” for such signage.
“We would suggest the group or organization would have signed this to identify where the sign came from,” she said. “We will be sure going forward signs are appropriately associated with the originator of the sign/poster. The signage will be staying up.”
What about my rights as a straight female? I want to feel safe, feel comfortable, not have to see a man in my women’s bathroom, etc. when you are born with a penis you need to be in a bathroom with other people that are born with a penis. Simple. When did this become too hard a question? If your head tells you you are a girl, and you have a penis, you will know which bathroom is designated for your use. It’s not an essay question.
