This week we learned that a unit on LGBTQ+ was being taught in a freshman-year “Health” class at Western Dubuque High School in Epworth.
The study plan being used in the Western Dubuque “Health” class is provided by the Trans Student Education Resource website. This is verbatim from their website.
MISSION
Trans Student Educational Resources is a youth-led organization dedicated to transforming the educational environment for trans and gender-nonconforming students through advocacy and empowerment. In addition to our focus on creating a more trans-friendly education system, our mission is to educate the public and teach trans activists how to be effective organizers. We believe that justice for trans and gender nonconforming youth is contingent on an intersectional framework of activism. Ending oppression is a long-term process that can only be achieved through collaborative action.
One recently passed Iowa law prohibits gender transition procedures for minors. Another prohibits persons from entering single and multiple occupancy restrooms or changing areas and other facilities in elementary and secondary schools that do not correspond with the person’s biological sex.
Although no law specifically prohibits teaching about LGBTQ+ practices, all concerned citizens should ask, “What is the purpose of ‘educating” young people about what the overwhelming majority of citizens consider to be abnormal behavior?” Is it designed to encourage “experimenting?”
Several concerned parents immediately contacted the WD Principal and requested a meeting. As a result, that element of the “Health” class was removed and the teacher involved sent a letter of apology to parents. He stated that the website he recommended had not be “properly vetted” prior to the assignment.
This incident and the action of concerned parents provides a great example for all. If you learn of something being taught that concerns you, it is vital that you speak to school officials immediately. They are YOUR children. You pay for their education.
You have every right to demand that our children are Educated – not Indoctrinated.
Gallup finds 7.2% of U.S. Adults identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or something other than straight or heterosexual. That percentage has doubled since Gallup first measured LGBT identification in 2012.
In recent years, American media has been actively promoting the LGBTQ+ agenda.
Most conservative persons believe in the concept of “live and let live,” but not in the active promotion of behavior contrary to that of the vast majority of citizens.
We believe Transgender Education does not belong in the curriculum of any public school.
