Kim Schneider, Follett School Solutions’ director of content marketing and events, responded to The Iowa Standard’s email from last Wednesday.

She said Follett would not be commenting on any specific schools or districts.

“What we can share is a more broad view on how book selection takes place,” she said. “Follett works with more than 6,000 publishers and tens of thousands more imprints within those publishers. We provide many tools for our customers to learn more about the titles they select, to ultimately help them make decisions. When requested, Follett will create lists for customers based on their unique guidelines and parameters, and will include books that have been positively reviewed, are on state lists and meet the criteria they have shared with us.”

Follett was used as the company to purchase sexually explicit, possibly illegal materials for school libraries across Iowa.
