This is not from The Babylon Bee. This actually happened.

Iowa parents created an event on Facebook called “Sick Out for Safety.” It took place yesterday. The group of parents had decided “enough is enough” and “took action.”

The plan: have kids stay home from school.

“If more than 10 percent of the school population is absent, these numbers have to be reported to Iowa Department of Public Health,” was listed as the genius behind the idea.

“The absentees would force the Iowa Department of Public Health to evaluate their current surveillance system, which they have adjusted to follow the influenza model; by only focusing on ‘outbreaks and vulnerable populations.'”

The group demanded:

*The Governor no longer uses our children as political pawns. (Clearly, this group despises anyone willing to use kids as political pawns — except for, you know, themselves).

*An emergency order to allow mask mandates (Clearly, not allowing mask mandates has created so much risk, danger and illness that completely healthy kids have to stay home from school in an effort to create the misconception that there are a ton of sick kids).

*Bring back daily COVID numbers.

There were others, but those were the highlights — or maybe lowlights.

For those children who couldn’t be kept home, parents were encouraged to have them wear a green or blue shirt. Because in the midst of a “global pandemic,” wearing a shirt of a specific color is what’s necessary to really fight the illness.

For the record, this may not have been the most well thought out “protest” of the pandemic.
