ANKENY EMPLOYEE: Decision on masks was made well before board meeting, public meeting was ‘for show’

An employee of the Ankeny School District has said that the decision on requiring little kids to wear masks in schools was made well before Tuesday night’s board meeting.

They said staff was warned on Tuesday morning to prepare for phone calls from upset parents on Wednesday and that they would be ordering masks on Tuesday.

District office employees were also meeting with administrators at the building to have mask meetings.

“Tonight’s meeting was for show,” they said.

There was about two hours’ worth of public comment that was essentially just an opportunity for parents to discuss their personal views on mandatory masking as the board had already decided what it was going to do.
