Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Thomas Ahart has announced he will be stepping down at the end of the school year. Ahart submitted his resignation to the board, which will meet tomorrow, March. 1.

Ahart was marred in controversy after mocking prayer with a Halloween costume. His wife wore a terribly inappropriate costume to a Halloween event at a DMPS school. He also famously said the “hope” was for an uptick in COVID cases during Christmas break.

A release from DMPS noted that Ahart said leading DMPS has been the “honor of my professional life.”

“However, I am ready to begin a new chapter,” he said.

Ahart’s top highlights according to the release are:

*Making educational equity a major focus.
*A series of anti-racist town halls.
*Adding two leadership positions to support diverse faculty and staff members as well as adopting a restorative justice model in schools.

  1. Not one of those things have to do with reading, arithmetic, or English… Nor the increase or improvement of those core competencies needed for those poor students under his pathetic guidance… Good riddance of this complete loser!
