Students at Grant Ragan Elementary School in Waukee participated in a “Fun Run” on Friday. The school sent out an email that stated:

“We are very excited for our Fun Run today! For the Fun Run event, online students are invited to join us in person between 1 and 1:50. We will begin in Fox Creek Park over by the splash pad at 1 and 1:10 and then will move to the loop that is closer to the school but still in Fox Creek Park. Masks will be required and parents are welcome to watch from a distance.”

The email continued, but the relevant point has been made.

Upon first glance, my thought was surely the school meant masks were required for parents to watch.

But that is not the case.

I called the school and was told that, yes, masks were required. The masks were required because online students were going to participate and the school wanted them to feel comfortable doing so.

But, if a student got hot during the run, they could pull down their mask.

Students run a mile during the Fun Run to raise funds for the school.
