We lose the next generation because we put people like this in charge of overseeing their learning.

Reports out of California say that Gary Krahn, the head of school at La Jolla Country Day, sent an email to all staff regarding a student showing up wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.

The horror.

According to KUSI, the email says, “We also had a student wear a MAGA Hat today. I have talked with that student who now understands why that hat is offensive to our community. He will not wear it again. In addition his mom said that she is embarrassed by his actions. She will fulfill her role as a parent. We will continue to grow as a community that sees and values the dignity of all people.”

However, multiple media reports say that the school has no rule against political attire and they are allowed to wear hats. Krahn also sent the email to parents, according to Fox News.

Krahn explained his decision to KUSI News:

“First, the First Amendment is very important to me. I was willing to give my life for it as I served in the Army. It is one of the most precious things that we have in this nation. A student came onto campus with a Make America Great Again hat. He has every right to wear that hat. I had friends give their life for that right.

“It was not a political decision to reach out to him and to talk about that hat. It was a decision about dignity. The inherent value that all humans have. When I approached the student, I shared with him that he had that right to wear that hat. I also shared with him the impact it has on our community. That hat has a symbol of racism and hatred. We could argue about whether that’s true or not, but it’s a fact that in our community there’s a belief that that’s what that hat represents.

“Because we’re a community of dignity, that all people have value and that all people are vulnerable, I wanted the student to know that his decision was going to have an impact on people. He graciously took off his hat.”

Krahn claimed the school would continue to honor the First Amendment, seconds after advocating against it.

This guy does not belong anywhere in the education field. He says everyone has dignity, I wonder if he believes that about President Donald J. Trump. I wonder if he believes President Trump has value. I wonder if he believes Trump supporters have value and deserve dignity.

I’ll be honest, when I first heard about this story, I was shocked. Then when I found out the guy actually tried to justify it, I was flabbergasted (I hope you agree flabergasted is a step above shocked).

Let’s revisit what this head of indoctrination said…

He makes a statement: “The hat has a symbol of racism and hatred.”

Not “I believe.” Not “some of us feel.” Not “you might say.”

No, the hat has a symbol of racism and hatred. Period. Fact.

Literally in the next sentence he reveals a sort of ignorance that wouldn’t even be acceptable from one of his high school students.

“We could argue about whether that’s true or not.”

OK, so then suddenly we aren’t dealing with facts. Suddenly we’re dealing with individual opinions based on — beliefs. We’re dealing with political speech. That is supposed to be protected in this country.

“It’s a fact that in our community there’s a belief that that’s what that hat represents.”

Which is it? Can it be argued or not? Is it true or not? Because if it can be argued, then it isn’t a fact.

This guy guilt-tripped a student into being ashamed of his political beliefs.

We wonder why we need safe spaces? We wonder why young people cannot deal with diversity of thought and opinion?

Because of this guy — Gary Krahn — and people like him.

He says it wasn’t a political decision to reach out to the student for wearing a political hat. Really? Seriously? And Gavin Newsom had no idea his maskless birthday dinner would be inside around a table without socially distancing from his guests.

Are people in California seriously this stupid?

Krahn should be absolutely ashamed of himself. He failed this student, this school and the oath he took to defend the Constitution in the Army.

Krahn is a failure who is doing his part to damage the future of our freedom-loving country.
