This week marks the Education Celebration at the Capitol in support of nonpublic schools. It’s good timing because legislators are still considering options for helping the parents of private school students. Gov. Reynolds has named the issue as one of her top priorities.

We need your help in making sure that the benefits of school choice can reach as many Iowa parents as possible. To serve all parents, the advantages of a school choice program must extend beyond public schools. We can’t exclude the private school students that will contribute to our state’s success.

This can be done in many ways. Here’s a few examples:

  • Education Savings Accounts (ESAs), for example, would allow some parents who choose not to enroll their children in a public school to receive a deposit of public funds into a savings account set up by the state. This money could be used by parents for Catholic school tuition.
  • Iowa’s current School Tuition Organization tax credit program helps raise private money for scholarships to attend a Catholic or other nonpublic school.
  • The tuition and textbook tax credit program could be made refundable so it’s available to all parents.

Please send a message to your legislators and the Governor in support of parental choice in education. Use your own words and add your own personal story to the suggested message. Thanks for your help.
