In one of the strangest decisions I’ve seen at a political event, liberal Republican State Rep. Hans Wilz served as the emcee at the Ron DeSantis/Kim Reynolds rally in Des Moines. The fact he was selected as emcee despite his voting record on several key issues that Reynolds and DeSantis both champion is a headscratcher.

Ironically, Wilz was the only Republican who won a primary in 2022 where Reynolds endorsed the other candidate. He awkwardly joked at the beginning of the event Reynolds was actually coming out to endorse him, but then said she wasn’t really going to endorse him.

And why would she? It would undermine the most conservative legislative victories of 2023.

To recap, Wilz voted against the following bills:

*A bill protecting children from radical, experimental sex-change treatments and surgeries.
*A bill requiring people use the bathroom based on their biological sex in Iowa schools.
*A bill that provided parental rights in education — (prohibiting schools from keeping gender identity secrets from parents and removing sexually explicit books from school libraries).

So what the heck was he given a major platform for? Rather than providing him a platform, serious conservatives should be finding a primary challenger for his seat.
