The Democrat House Minority Leader in Virginia proclaimed Delegate Elizabeth Guzman’s proposal to expand the definition of child abuse and neglect to include parents who do not affirm their children’s gender identity or sexual orientation would be “dead on arrival” if introduced next legislative session.

Don Scott Jr. made the comment after Guzman told local media the law tells parents the “do’s and don’ts” and would be educating them.

“So this law is telling you, ‘do not abuse your children because they are LGBTQ.'”

Guzman has since backed down from her proposal. Her original interview drew national attention — and backlash.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s office said it is clear the goal of Democrat lawmakers in Virginia is to “criminalize” parents who are trying to be involved in their children’s lives.

“Utterly horrifying,” said Sen. Ted Cruz. “These zealots think they are your children’s parents, and they’ll put you in jail if you disagree.”
