I would like to urge all parents in Iowa to think critically about the upcoming presidential election in 2024. As our nation shifts further and further toward a centralized, top-down system of government, it is imperative we elect a leader who understands the unique challenges facing our education system.
I am a mom of three children who all attended public school, and I worked in education as a substitute teacher for nearly a decade. Over the last few years, I have witnessed the accelerated transformation of our classrooms toward an agenda-driven curriculum without the knowledge or consent of parents. The three-letter organizations in Washington D.C. have stolen local control and pushed policies in violation of parental rights. Bureaucracies like the Department of Education, American Library Association and teachers’ unions have promoted the sexualization of our children, implemented teaching strategies that do not work, and handcuffed schools from using effective disciplinary measures in the name of “equity.” The results are clear. Two-thirds of fourth graders are not reading at grade level, and behavior issues are driving teachers out of the profession.
We need to understand what time it is in America. Parental rights and the protection of our children is of utmost importance in this election cycle, and the window of opportunity to right this ship is closing. As a father of three young children, Gov. DeSantis also has a personal stake in this fight, and he has shown his willingness and ability to unapologetically stand up tot he educational elites in defense of our children and against their indoctrination and divisive agendas. Through his time as Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis has a proven record of defending parents and advancing policies that promote strong families.
