Republican State Rep. Steven Holt provided strong closing comments on the bathroom bill early Friday morning in the Iowa House Judiciary Committee meeting. Holt said he believes misleading children is “harmful.”

“Denying truth and science in favor of feelings, that is harmful to children,” Holt said. “Telling young children they can choose their gender in denial of biological reality, that is duping many children to a lifetime of mental anguish and suffering.”

He said allowing children to choose their gender and then use the bathroom of the opposite sex while “completely ignoring” the rights and concerns of young girls and boys is an “untenable and immoral” place to be.

“The Iowa Accomodation for All Children Act is an attempt to restore santiy to an increasingly insane world,” Holt said. “Who would’ve believed that we would’ve been having arguments about which bathroom to use? Who would’ve believed we would have been arguing over basic biology? This legislation stands for truth. This legislation stands for science. This legislation stands with logic. This legislation stands with what until recently was understood by all in our society — very simply, male restrooms are for those whose biological sex is male and female restrooms are for those whose biological sex is female. Back to basics. Back to truth. And nothing is more loving for our children than telling them the truth.”

  1. I wish people would stop using the left’s language. One doesn’t need to say biological male – just say male. Anything else is delusion. I remember a line from a book that said something to the effect that the people who do you the most harm are those who help you avoid reality.

  2. What he should have said: “male restrooms are for those whose sex is male and female restrooms are for those whose sex is female.”
