During a League of Women Voters debate, candidates were asked if they are OK with a man who claims to be a transgender woman using the female restroom. Republican Rep. Dean Fisher gave a pretty clear answer on why he isn’t fine with that. The two Democrat candidates toed the party line and rejected science, instead supporting biological men using the women’s restroom.
And then Republican State Sen. Annette Sweeney provided this answer:
“In Europe, you go into a restroom, first time I was there, you have separate stalls with doors. And when a gentleman walked out, I thought I was in the wrong restroom. But, it, as long as they have the closed doors and not an open place to relieve themselves, then the closed doors is fine. I don’t like it, but the closed doors can be workable.”
Sweeney did say she isn’t OK with boys showering with girls. But hearing her say allowing boys who say they are girls to use the female restroom is “workable” is a bit concerning.
