With one week in the books at our beloved State Capitol, The Iowa Standard wanted to highlight some of the “interesting” bills that were filed during Week 1. Among them, Senate File 2039 sponsored by State Sen. Adrian Dickey.

The legislation is short and to the point. Under SF 2039, school boards of a school district and authorities in charge of accredited nonpublic schools would be required to adopt a policy prohibiting certain school-sponsored activities related to race.

The policy would prohibit all classes, events, competitions and other school-sponsored activities intended to be only for students of a particular race; limit participation to students based on race; or use a student’s race as a factor in determining or assessing the student’s performance.
