Sen. Brown’s efforts on occupational licensing reform reason enough to re-elect him in 2020

Lost in the mess of COVID-19 is a successful effort to address occupational licensing reform by the Iowa Legislature earlier this year.

At the forefront of the process was Sen. Waylon Brown. Iowa was ranked as the second-most licensed state in the country in 2018 by the Institute for Justice. Nearly one-fourth of the state’s workforce were required a license to do their job.

In the 1950s, only five percent of the workforce nationally required a license to work!

Sen. Brown guided the legislation through the Iowa Senate and his work on this bill alone is reason enough to send him back to Des Moines for another four years!

Ranked a “conservative” by I Voter Guide, he had a score of 100 percent from NFIB (Iowa) in 2017-18 and scored 93 percent in 2019 from American Conservative Union Foundation (Iowa).

Iowans for Tax Relief wrote that “occupational licensing makes it harder for Iowans to work, and it drives up costs for all Iowans.”

That’s absolutely right. And, along with groups like Iowans for Tax Relief and Americans For Prosperity, it was Sen. Brown leading the charge for occupational licensing reform.
